The psychology of gift giving

The psychology of giving.

This is a season when we seek for gifts to give others. The gifts can be just as simple as giving a gift card so the person can get what they want or need or it can be a hand-crafted on-of-a-kind gift created specifically for that person.

Whatever your involvement in that person’s life, the act of gift-giving creates a spiritual and mood enhancing lift. Thinking of others makes us happier.

So how do we bring that into our marketing.

Our marketing can’t just be for the making of money without regard to the people we market to.

If it is, you won’t have much success.

There are several elements we need to incorporate.

  1. Really care about the people you market to. Do you really want to help them improve their lives? Can you understand what they may be going through? Do you truly have empathy for them?

Marketing to people who have similar circumstances to you helps you be empathetic and creates a bond between you and them.

  1. Does the item you market offer your potential clients something of value. Does it help them in any way?
  2. Do you follow up with them to make sure it helps and that they understand it?

Marketing should be an extension of the gift-giving ideal. Yes, the person may have to pay for the product but the gift lies in you introducing it to them and following up with help and assistance.

Give the gift that keeps on giving…..success.
